Though it’s icy outside, today is the first day of the new moon cycle. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, a perfect day to start flowers and non-root vegetables as the new moon waxes (grows).

This time-honoured way of planting to the monthly moon rhythms was practised by my grandma–and she was never wrong.

Her traditional wisdom was borne out by bounteous vegetable and fruit harvests gobbled up by her loyal customers and devoted family.

The honeybees have landed!

Red House Honey received three colonies of bees over the weekend. The bees are buzzing around under our pine trees, happy as all heck. Now if it would only stop raining!
