Thanks to Una Rhodes and Brenda Steinburg for all their hard work leading up to this very successful day.

Out with the old, in with the new

Cleaning out old hives, getting rid of dead bees and too much honey comb inside the hives is not my favourite task, but it has to be done. Plus, it heralds the coming of spring, and with it, a bunch of new bee colonies–and you know what that means? Honey! It also means the time is drawing closer when we can really get our new, 11-acre permaculture farm up and running. And that means more yummy fruits and veggies, a clover cover crop, ducks in the ponds and goats…well, probably up in the trees. There’s a reason the young ones are called “kids.” They are always up to something!

New Horizons for Red House Honey

#Redhousehoney: Up, up and away ~ New stores + new opportunities!

Red House Honey is soooo happy! Our honey will now be featured in Givopoly Ottawa’s Urban Gourmet Foodie Gift Boxes. Honey has already hit the counters of Seed to Sausage General Store in Ottawa along with Luv U 100% Beeswax Candles. Honey is oozing from the shelves at Seed to Sausage in Sharbot Lake. The River Lily Boutique in Prescott has our Luv U 100% Beeswax Candles and honey displayed prominently next to a selection of fine gifts (including yoga supplies – yahoo!) and next week, Barnard’s Emporium at Spencerville Mill in Spencerville will feature Luv U Candles and honey along with a huge variety of locally-made products.

We will also be placing a hive or two amidst many acres of buckwheat thanks to a bee-kind farmer near Oxford Mills. Fingers crossed for kosher buckwheat honey in 2015!

Don’t forget to catch Red House Honey at the MS Walk & Sale at Vanier Public School in Brockville on June 28. Brenda of B’s Bubbles will be selling our wares, along with her wonderful soaps and body products.
